Jane Williams
I do not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but I look at the heart.
1 Samuel 16:7
The ultimate way to find calm and peace in this world is to look through the eyes of Jesus. It’s not a simple task. Life is often full of chaos, disappointment, and loss. How do we learn to see like Christ?
For Jane Williams, seeing like Christ means listening to those in her community and believing in them without judgement. Through her organization, Love Columbia, Jane and her team provide physical refuge and support to people in Columbia, Missouri. Jane believes we are made in the image of God, and as Image Bearers, we deserve love, dignity, and help from our neighbors.
Gayla and Jane have been friends for years, and Jane has been a great encouragement to the development of Creating Refuge. She knows so well the importance of physical refuge and spiritual rest.
Jane began losing her sight in 2010 and lost sight completely in 2013. However, her vision for serving the community around her is in perfect focus. In fact, one of the things that is so special about Jane is her ability to see people – she looks beyond the physical appearance to the heart of a person.
We are excited for you to hear from Jane and Gayla! As you listen, think about those in your life who need to be truly seen. Who are the Image Bearers around you? How can you look at them with eyes like Christ?
It can be overwhelming to hear how someone like Jane impacts the world on such a large scale. At Creating Refuge, we believe even the smallest acts of love and kindness make a lasting difference. As you reflect on Jane’s story, think of how you can take a heart for others and serve one person. If we all do for one what we wish we could do for many, we can change the world.
